BEIJING, March 21, 2013 (City Weekend) —
Imwedding in Wangjing carries a wide range of customizable stationery and party favors. Though most of the products are matrimonial in theme, many could easily be appropriated as invitations and thank you notes for business events, birthday parties or other celebrations, as long as you don’t mind sending out invitations covered in florals and feathers. But for those planning a wedding and looking for a matching set of fold-out cards filled with items like the invitation, maps and suggestions for hotels near the wedding venue (starting from RMB15 each), name cards for reception tables (from RMB2.50 each) and table cards (from about RMB7 each), this place is a one-stop shop. These items can be purchased individually or, in some cases, in a bundle (prices available upon request). They also have a fair selection of candy boxes and other small wedding favors like tiny jars of honey, as well as guest books, with most items available on Taobao.
Even people who are not going all Bridezilla will be able to appreciate the wedding invitation and candy selection offered at Candy Square, located near Dongzhimen. The shop promises to constantly update its wares so customers can have the most unique products in town. While prices are only available upon request, it is nice that they can offer some peace of mind by ensuring that some other bride probably won’t be sending out the same wedding invitations as you. All of the invitations are “hand-made,” which mostly just means that someone – not a machine – affixes any ribbons or sparkly doo-dads to each item by hand and that delivery could take some time. They also claim to be an “authorized dealer” of imported candies from Ferrero Rocher, Hershey and Dove, so the Candy Shop is a pretty sweet deal.
The folks at Paper Pounder Press throw special paper imported from Crane & Co. in the U.S. through their Golding presses, “Polly” and “Jenny,” manufactured in 1882 and 1909, respectively, to create business cards, all manner of invitations, greeting cards and pretty much anything else that would fill someone’s custom stationery wants and needs. The husband and wife team can make custom letter presses, which are kind of like heavy-duty stamps, out of company logos and seals or they can help customers create custom designs that can be whimsical and romantic, light and fun or down-right professional. While the pricing grid can seem a bit confusing, all prices are based on the size, amount (most customers start at about 100 pieces), how many colors will be used. No matter how you slice it, nothing here is going to come cheap, but it will definitely be thoughtfully crafted, special and sure to dazzle those on the receiving end.
